Make fitness a family affair

Make fitness a family affair

Of all the things we pass on to our children, a love of fitness could be the most valuable.

When your kids see you looking forward to a workout or a run with your buddies, they learn that exercise is fun. They also see how exercise can contribute to better health, high energy, and a positive attitude.

Start exercise early

Many fitness studios have childcare areas, and even kids’ classes, to encourage this interest while keeping little ones safe. Jogging strollers and bicycles with child-sized back seats are also fun.

Make sure you take along Hydrate packs, so you can stay hydrated during your ride or run. Hydrate also supports your electrolytes and recovery after a workout. This includes 6 B vitamins that may boost your energy levels, helping you keep up with the kids for the rest of the day.

Lead by example

Children naturally love running around outside. Encouraging this can set them on a path to stay active throughout their lives. Regular exercise helps kids cope with stress, reduce anxiety, and improve self-esteem.

To encourage a love of fitness consider these tips:

  • Lead by example. Stick to your routines and meet your goals.

  • Help your kids invent games, races, and dances.

  • Give them active toys like scooters, bikes, and balls.

  • Visit playgrounds often. Invite a friend to make it even more fun.

Keep them moving

When they are little, children love to run around. But teens are drawn to television, social media, and video games. Spending too much time on these sedentary habits can affect their health, emotions, and social lives.

As a guideline, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend 60 minutes of physical activity for kids, every day. Make exercise fun by checking out the ideas on this website by educators at Shape America

Sports, sports, sports

Group sports offer kids a chance to make friends and learn teamwork, all while staying fit. Just be realistic about the time and money required, and how it affects schoolwork and family time.

And don’t forget to pack their gym bags with sunblock and water bottles. If you are watching from the stands, take along Hydrate for yourself and other adults.

Glacier, Strawberry Lemonade, and Peach Mango Hydrate provide electrolyte support with sodium, chloride, potassium calcium, and magnesium. They have 1,422 mg of electrolytes and 19 vitamins and minerals, including six B vitamins, at only 5 calories per serving.

Our newest Hydrates are made with monk fruit extract and sugarcane Reb M, so they are sugar-free and stevia-free, while still tasting delicious.
